About the Journal
Aim & Scope
ASRI. Art and Society. Journal of Research in Digital Arts and Humanity, ISSN: 2174-7563 is a biannual open-access scientific publication coordinated by the research group on Visual Culture and Artistic Practices (CUVPAC) and edited by the publications service of the Rey Juan Carlos University. The main objective is to offer an exchange instrument for the research and dissemination of the multiple forms of expression and representation of the material and virtual world we inhabit. A platform for critical thinking that provides knowledge in a systematic and multidisciplinary way and that is aimed at researchers and artists in art, cultural and visual studies, digital humanities, doctoral and master's students, and enthusiasts of hypermedia culture, the internet and communication technologies, information and visual representation.
ASRI Journal publishes monographic numbers and miscellaneous open volumes. Said monographs address four thematic families or lines of thought that offer a broad setting for discussion and debate of ideas:
- Poetics of the Image/Visual Studies (Green Collection).
- Audiovisual Narratives/Cinema (Blue Collection).
- Architecture/ Design (Red Collection).
- Digital Humanities (Purple Collection).
The open or miscellaneous issues #OPENASRI accept any topic related to contemporary artistic creation, visual culture, new online media, and digital humanism and will be published with the articles that are received and approved in blind peer review.
Editorials Objectives / Aims
ASRI Journal. Art and Society. Journal of Research in Digital Arts and Humanity is established as a platform dedicated to the exploration of culture and the arts in their relationship with society and the economy. A space to publicize recent research by experts and professionals in the field.
Thematic areas
ASRI Journal addresses questions about the multiple social factors that intervene in the art world: the cultural value of images in the network society; the role of the artist as a social and cultural activator; the social situation of the artist, patronage, the market, collecting, the role of art galleries, foundations and other institutions that promote and support artistic activity. the role of technologies as mediators and builders of new artistic languages. In short, ASRI seeks to reveal the circumstances and changes that socially surround the artistic act and that are currently presented to us as new challenges, and in need of new approaches and adaptations.

IMPORTANT: Throughout 2023, ASRI. Art and Society join the initiative of publishing the articles as they are approved for publication, without waiting to have all the necessary articles to form an open issue or a monographic. This way of proceeding will shorten waiting times for authors and improve the circulation of knowledge.
Audience
ASRI Journal is a publication that accepts research papers from artists and researchers in Digital Arts, Technologies, and Humanities.
Language
The main language of the ASRI Journal is Spanish, although articles in English are accepted when the editorial committee considers them to be of special relevance to the journal.

Declaration of Principles
ASRI: Arte y Sociedad. Revista de Investigación en Arte y Humanidades defends free and open access to its contents as a way of exchanging universal knowledge. Thus users can read, download, copy, modify, and distribute the full text of the articles.
In this way, the journal does not charge any type of remuneration for publishing the research work of the authors, nor for access to its reading, download, and distribution, whether of national or international origin.
Journal History and access to old numbers
ASRI Journal. Art and Society. Journal of Research in Digital Arts and Humanity was published and evaluated for the first time in 2011, as a platform dedicated to the exploration of culture and the arts in their relationship with society and the economy, under the direction of José Luís Crespo Fajardo at the eumed.net publishing house at the University of Malaga, and the title: ASRI. Art and Society.

Unfortunately, they have not been able to publish under the new format of the magazine because they do not meet the requirements established by the new editorial policy.
In its beginnings, ASRI addressed questions about the multiple social factors that intervene in the art world: the impact and transcendence of politics, the economy, and culture; matters of trade, jurisprudence, management, and valuation of works of art; the social situation of the artist, patronage, mercantilism, collecting, the role of art galleries, foundations and other institutions that promote and support artistic activity.
In September 2018, José Ramón Alcalá and Tomás Zarza take charge of the new era of the magazine from the Rey Juan Carlos University, renewing its skin under a new direction and proposing new approaches to face the challenges of digitization, the network society, and the digital humanities. It also renews its editorial team and expands its scientific committee.
In July 2022, ASRI magazine migrates to OJS under the new executive director of Tomás Zarza and his deputy Director Miguel Sánchez Moñita. Professor José Ramón Alcalá remains within the editorial team as a member of the advisory committee.
Interoperability Protocol
ASRI Journal. Art and Society. Journal of Research in Digital Arts and Humanity provides an interface OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative – Protocol for Metadata Harvesting) that allows interoperability between different platforms and repositories through the exchange of metadata. Protocol: OAI-PMH Version 2.0 Metadata formats: Dublin Core; MARC; MARC21; RFC1807; XML JATS.
